About

Hi, I'm Mathias Wouters and welcome to my portfolio website! I'm an IT Professional with a passion for using technology to solve real-world problems. Thanks for taking the time to learn more about me.

IT Professional Specializing in Cloud, Systems, and DevOps

I've always been fascinated by the transformative power of technology and its ability to make a meaningful impact on the world. This passion drove me to pursue a career in IT, where I combine my technical skills with creativity to design and implement scalable, secure, and innovative solutions.

My expertise lies in Cloud Computing, System Architecture, and DevOps, with a strong focus on automation, infrastructure as code (IaC), and optimizing IT environments for efficiency and scalability. I believe that cloud technologies and modern DevOps practices have revolutionized the way businesses operate, enabling faster innovation, increased flexibility, and improved reliability.

In my academic journey, I earned a degree in Cloud and Cyber Security, which gave me a solid foundation in protecting digital environments. While cybersecurity remains a valuable part of my skill set, my primary focus is on building and managing robust, cloud-native infrastructures that help organizations thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Outside of work, I enjoy a diverse range of activities. I work as a private driver at Get Driven and volunteer as a scout leader for my local scouting group. I also love diving into books on finance, business, self-help, and other topics that expand my understanding of the world. These experiences help me recharge and bring fresh perspectives to my professional endeavors.

My professional ambitions are centered around driving innovation and creating value through technology. I aspire to work with organizations that harness IT to make a positive impact and solve meaningful problems. As I continue to grow in my career, I aim to establish myself as a respected expert in Cloud, Systems, and DevOps, contributing to advancements in technology and shaping best practices for the future.

Automating Azure Platform Deployment using a Root Module - Sopra Steria (Ordina)

During my internship at Sopra Steria, I worked on automating the deployment of Azure cloud resources using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles. The objective was to simplify and accelerate the process of setting up Azure infrastructure by leveraging Terraform, Azure DevOps, and a modular root module designed to handle the management and connectivity layers of the Azure Enterprise Scale Model.

The Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) has deployed Azure platforms for several customers using multiple Terraform modules. My project addressed key challenges, such as the complexity of managing numerous variable files, the need for dynamic naming conventions, and ensuring scalability across different environments. To solve these issues, I designed a YAML-based configuration system, merging it with Terraform local variables to define, manage, and deploy resources like virtual networks, subnets, firewalls, and DNS zones.

The root module I developed centralized resource configurations, allowing users to define their requirements in a single YAML file. By integrating this module into an Azure DevOps pipeline, the deployment process became more streamlined and scalable. Although my initial solution utilized a single pipeline for deploying across multiple subscriptions, I laid out plans for future enhancements, such as creating separate pipelines per subscription and integrating advanced security measures like SAST and DAST scans.

This project not only reduced deployment complexity but also ensured consistency and efficiency in resource management. Through this internship, I gained extensive experience in Terraform, Azure DevOps, cloud automation, and best practices in IaC, contributing to a more effective infrastructure management framework at Sopra Steria.
